Loreigh McDaniel and her friend Barbara Bunnell were smoking on McDaniel’s front porch when a man with a gun confronted the pair and ordered them inside. Michael Campbell, McDaniel’s boyfriend, had been asleep inside the home, but awoke when the criminal confronted the women. After retrieving a shotgun, Campbell confronted the intruder, who had by then pushed Bunnell to the ground. Campbell shot the attacker once, and then again when the intruder reached inside a pocket. After the second shot the intruder fled the home and sought help at a nearby fire station. The attacker was taken from the fire station to a local hospital where doctors described his wounds as non-life threatening. (The Fayetteville Observer, Fayetteville, N.C. 08/03/10)
